Can Rafols del Caus
In 1979 Carlos Esteva decided to live on his grandfather’s estate, Can Ràfols dels Caus. His early experience of viticulture was gained on the island of Menorca in the 1970s.
It was only when he took charge of the family domain that he decided to commit himself to the production of quality wines, with body and soul, and respecting the characteristics of the surrounding landscape and architecture within a sustainable scope.
Carlos Esteva’s return to the Garraf was nothing short of a revolution: not only did he embark on the daunting task of restoring the noble but dilapidated masia (traditional Catalan farmhouse), but he had to regenerate the agriculture of the vineyards, introducing many new varieties of grape varieties and cultivation methods. This was a real gamble to produce quality wine with unique character that would give a real identity to his winery.
With several decades of experience in the wine world, Carlos Esteva continues to distinguish himself for his wide culture in this sector, he has been appointed head of the prestigious International Academy of Wine, and for his ability to diversify: not satisfied with creating some twenty references at Can Ràfols dels Caus – both wines and Cavas – he has other projects such as Mas Oller in the Empordà and Can Camps, a small estate driven by the distinction of wine produced with vineyards located in the middle of the Natural Park of the Massís del Garraf.
